WickiUp 3

The WickiUp 3 is a special shelter so we've given it a special page just to explain how good it really is! The quality of materials and the high standard of construction are self evident however the modular approach to the WickiUp 3 components offers great flexibility in how the shelter can be used, by buying two or more parts you can configure various shelters at various weights for a variety of conditions.

Flysheet and Pole - Basic Shelter - Weighs 1040g

Buying the basic shelter and pole allows you to use an ultra-lightweight shelter that is spacious, has enough room to stand up in and will protect up to three people from the elements. You'll need to add personal groundsheets or just lie on your sleeping mats.

You could reduce the weight even further by joining two trekking poles together to make the central pole, a fanatically lightweight option at 708g.

Basic Shelter plus Groundsheet - Weighs 1682g

Adding the groundsheet to the basic shelter adds some luxury (!) a tough and highly protective floor with bathtub sides means you are protected from any groundwater and you have acres of space to keep your gear.

The only protection you don't have with this option is against insects. Going lightweight is about understanding the environment you are going into, there are a lot of destinations where insects are not an issue - but you wouldn't want to take this configuration to Scotland in May!

You could reduce the weight even further by joining two trekking poles together to make the central pole, saving an extra 332g brings the weight of this option down to 1350grams.

Basic Shelter plus Half size Inner Tent - Weighs 1570g

Not everyone will use the WickiUp 3 for three people and the half size inner tent is perfect for two, using this allows you to have a massive porch area providing additional storage for bikes, dogs, changing etc.. You also have complete protection from insects and the double skin means the tent will be warmer in cold conditions.

Basic Shelter plus Full Inner tent - Weighs 1860g

Using the full sized inner produces an awesome shelter, the ultimate lightweight three person setup with plenty of room, stand up height, full water and insect protection and the warmth of a double skin tent. All this at under 2kg.

The only drawback with this configuration is that there is no porch area - note the doorway, if you open this during a heavy rain shower its difficult to stop the rain entering the inner tent.

Basic Shelter, Full Inner Tent and Poncho Tarp - Weighs 2080g

You can mitigate the issue with the full inner setup by using a tarp to create a protected porch - the ultimate WickiUp 3 option adds just 220grams to the total weight. Nigor produce the Poncho Tarp SUL which is ideal for this purpose, however you can easily use other tarps to do the same job.
