Lightweight and protective, the shoe is waterproof and breathable thanks to the Gore-Tex membrane. The abrasion resistant all-round rand, deriving from the climbing world, makes it sturdy and durable, the high quality Nubuck uppers further increases the overall comfort. Structured and protective thanks to the stabilizing insole, it is ideal for prolonged use by mountain guides and mountain operators . It adopts the characteristic Mythos-Style lacing system that wraps around the uppers for a perfect and precise regulation of volumes. Our Verdict
The TX5 is part of La Sportiva's renowned TX series with this model in particular being at the top end of the approach range, but is also suitable as a hiking shoe for those that require more support on more technical terrain.
The TX5 includes all of the features required for approach, craging, shorter hikes and Via Ferrata. Such as a full rand which protects the upper from potential damage from scrambling and general abrasion, the upper itself is a thick nubuck that offers a lot of support across the top of the foot and adds to the durability of the shoe as well as a good water resistance. A Gore-Tex liner guarantees the shoe to be waterproof and gives you the reassurance of not having to cope with the potential of soggy feet.
La Sportiva have used a Vibram Megagrip outsole which offers the shoe a very high level of grip that is perfect for gripping on more technical terrain and even for easier climbing routes. The Midsole is a shock absorbing EVA which provides a high level of shock absorption making them still feel very comfortable despite the stiffness of outsole. The outsole also has some deeper lugs which help to offer a good grip on softer ground as well as rocky, so it is a great choice for everything from basic low level hikes up to those operating on higher and steeper ground.
Fit wise the TX5 is a closer technical fit in both the toe box on and the heel which is common with this kind of shoe, in order to provide the maximum level of support on more difficult ground, but still offers a very comfortable fit for all day wear.
