The pad’s interior features NEMO’s proprietary Spaceframe™ baffle design, which utilizes low-stretch fabric trusses to create stable support and offer just the right amount of give — all while avoiding any wobbly waterbed feeling. Inside each baffle is a suspended layer of ultra-thin, metallized Thermal Mirror™ film, which efficiently reflects body heat and contributes to the pad’s overall 2.8 R-value. The layer’s clever floating construction eliminates the crinkling, crunchy sound that many insulated air pads are known for, earning Tensor a reputation for peace and quiet under the stars.
Armed with premium, durable 20D (top) and 40D (bottom) nylon, Tensor Trail is better protected against punctures and tears, and — like all NEMO sleeping pads — it includes a Vortex™ pump sack. Vortex effortlessly mates with the pad’s zero-profile, microadjustable Laylow™ valve for easy inflation in just minutes.
Our Verdict
Nemo's Tensor sleeping pads have been revamped, and the lightest model in the new range is the Tensor Trail. The Tensor Trail is a great option for spring, summer, and early Autumncamping because it has a R-value of 2.8, which provides optimal comfort during warmer temperatures. A layer of "Thermal Mirror Metallised Film" suspended throughout the mat insulates it. This layer reflects body heat back to the sleeper, and since it's suspended rather than welded, it decreases rustling or crunching noises, making the mat silent. The 3 ½ inches (8.9cm) thick, plush pad has a dimpled sleep surface and Nemo's 'Spaceframe' baffle construction, which lessens bounce and creates a stable surface that equally distributes weight, making it suitable for side sleepers.
The pad is made from high-quality recycled ripstop nylon with a 20D fabric on top and a more durable 40D fabric on the bottom. The mat includes Nemo’s Vortex Pump Sack, one of the most efficient pump sacks. It fits snugly on the "lay low" valve for easy inflation and deflation. The Vortex Pump Sack can fully inflate the pad in less than six blasts.

ASTM R-Value:
From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags. You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.
In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures.
