A robust headlamp with excellent versatility, offering reliable illumination.
Brand says:
The Storm 450 is engineered for epics in all conditions, featuring a robust waterproof/dustproof housing and 450 lumens of bright light. With new Dual-Fuel compatibility, the Storm is powered with either a rechargeable BD 1500 Li-ion battery or three standard AAA batteries. The compact body is ergonomic, and the updated user interface includes a secondary switch for easy mode selection. In addition, the updated optical efficiency not only provides brighter light, but also saves battery life that you can now easily track with a six-setting, three-LED battery meter. The Storm 450 also has three different colored night vision modes and peripheral white lighting for close-range activities like carefully re-racking for the final summit pitch in the dark. The headlamp has our Brightness Memory feature, which allows you to turn the light on and off at a chosen brightness without reverting back to the default, full power setting. The Storm 450's PowerTap Technology enables you to quickly and easily access maximum brightness with the touch of a finger.
Our Verdict
The Storm 450 produces an intense 450-lumen beam with a good balance between distance and flood lighting. The PowerTap feature is genuinely useful, allowing me to boost brightness with a finger tap instantly. The multiple modes, including red, green and blue night vision, add practical value for different settings. At 92g, it feels solid yet compact, and the IP67 rating gives me confidence to use it in heavy rain without concern. The Dual-Fuel design is a real strength: I can use the rechargeable BD 1500 pack for efficiency, but I can also fall back on AAAs if needed. Battery life is respectable, although it drains quickly on high settings with the rechargeable pack. It is disappointing that the BD 1500 battery is not included, and charging requires a separate cradle that still uses the older USB-B connector rather than the more modern USB-C, meaning im bringing more kit and cables. The controls take some learning, but once familiar, the interface is powerful.
