Scarpa's Rush Trek Pro Mid boots are not the lightest is the box but they are a comfortable and durable boot with excellent ankle support and a stiff, grippy sole unit, ideal for late Autumn, early Spring and some low level Winter day hikes.

Scarpa says:

RUSH TRK Pro GTX is the new benchmark for all day long and short mountain hike. It is a walking boot made in the name of comfort with technologies that reduce foot fatigue during the hike. It represents a culmination of soft comfort, solid stability and a lightweight feel.

Our Verdict

The Scarpa Rush Trek Pros are an update on the standard Rush Trek Model, with a move into a Nubuck upper, to offer a higher level of durability than the suede upper that came with the standard Rush Trek model. This has caused an increase in weight but only by 40g which for the extra level of durability is quite a small sacrifice.

The Trek Pro is definitly at the upper end of the lightweight catagory and is certainly not a summer boot, but it is ideal for those looking to transition from a traditional leather boot into something a bit lighter but keep a lot of the benefits, while saving some weight.

The main features are the high level of ankle support that is offered for a mid-cut boot meaning that it will tackle steeper ground, while the rubber toe cap will also afford protection from scuffing and abrasion. The most interesitng feature is the level of cushioning under foot that the Rush Pro provides shock absorption across the foot, which makes them feel very comfortable across a range of terrains, despite the stiffness of the sole unit. The sole unit is on the stiffer side of a lightweight model, meaning it might not suit everyone however it has a softer sole compound so will still offer a high level of grip, but is still more durable than most lightweight boots.

In terms of fit I found them to have quite a wide toe box and quite a lot of space in the heel so they are definitely not for those with a narrow foot like me, but would be great for those who are requiring a bit more room in the toe box.

One of the unique benefits of the Rush Trek Pro is that it can be re-soled by Scarpa in there factory in Italy, so you can increase the life  of the boots for many years of service.

Features

  • UPPER The upper is in 1.6-1.8 mm leather with characteristics of waterproofing, breathability, abrasion-resistant surface and durability. The ankle collar provides better ankle support, protection and comfort thanks to an Autofit 3D COLLAR in padded fabric able to stabilize the entire foot without pressure points and wrap the ankle following its movement.
  • LINING GORE-TEX (Extended Comfort) Laminate is made by a highly abrasion resistant and quick drying textile lining material while the highly breathable membrane holds a remarkable ability to disperse heat. In this way, feet are protected from water, while sweat that is created inside the shoe quickly evaporates.
  • SOLE: The new PRESA® sole is made with a high-grip and durable compound, pronounced heel and hiking-oriented lugs, which promote braking on descents and grip on climbs. In addition, the IKS (Interactive Kinetic System) technology, characterized by 5 shock-absorbing areas (domes), progressively and specifically support the weight of our body during our activity in the mountains
