Our Verdict
Designed to essentially be the only outdoor trousers you will need unless you are summit bagging in the depth of winter, the Rugged Slim Pants excel at any activity. Good for hiking and bouldering and especially good for climbing and scrambling. The 4-way stretch enables you to bend, stretch and reach and not be constricted by your choice of legwear. The reinforcements at the knee, seat, and instep give you confidence when bush-whacking through heather or woodland. I like the elasticated waistband that allows for even more stretch and movement, which I always appreciate when wearing a heavy rucksack.
The rugged, slim pants are excellent at protecting from harsh winds, and thanks to the DWR treatment, are really good at shedding the worst of the rain, and even if they do “wet out,” they will still provide you with a good level of warmth.
If I'm nitpicking, I prefer slightly larger pockets, but these are a fantastic all-rounder for year-round use.
