If you need an ultralight, one-person tent with a lot of space inside then our PIO-PIO is a good choice. Weighing less than a kilo, it is ideal for adventurers who like to travel alone. Formerly known as the Nigor Pio-Pio, Nigor was recently rebranded as Bach.
Bach says
The simple, classic and free-standing 3-season dome tent is ideal for backpacking. It can be accessed from two sides and offers two spacious vestibules thanks to its hexagonal basic construction.
Our Verdict
Bach isn't an established brand yet in the UK but we think it deserves close consideration because of their focus on making ultralight kit that doesn't compromise performance or strength.
The PioPio is a good example of this, the fabrics used to construct this tent offer the best compromise between lightness and strength because Bach have researched their components well and chosen the best. The groundsheet on this tent has a hydrostatic head of 10,000mm which is very unusual for such a lightweight tent and whilst some may feel its over spec'd others will appreciate the piece of mind brought by the use of such materials.
As a sub 2lbs, two skin solo tent the PioPio is extremely spacious with a decent head height that is maintained across the tent. The flysheet is cut quite high but still provides the required protection. The porch area is quite small but at least there is one, it will take a wet rucksack for example.
The design results in a long tent so there's space to store gear inside the inner tent, however the long length of the tent makes a good pitch harder to find compared with other designs.
