Our Verdict
The Mountain Equipment Powerstretch Balaclava weighs 65g (Small/Medium) and uses Polartec Power Stretch Pro fabric, offering an effective balance of insulation and breathability. The four-panel cut and flatlocked seams give a snug, ergonomic fit that avoids pressure points, while elastic binding around the face keeps it in place during movement.
The stretch fabric allows good freedom of movement, warmth is sufficient for sub-zero conditions, yet moisture escapes efficiently under steady exertion. Reinforced panels enhance durability, and the material withstands repeated use well. In harsher alpine weather, a windproof shell adds protection, but as a lightweight insulating layer for cold conditions, it performs reliably with minimal bulk.
