A no-fuss, well-cut short that handles rough terrain without slowing you down.
Mountain Equipment says:
Offering all-day comfort with their quick-drying fabric these pants are perfect for hiking and trekking. The zipped pockets allow you to safely store your essentials on the move. The clean waistband and integrated belt provide a comfortable fit, even when carrying a pack.
Our Verdict
Lightweight, agile, and built for movement—these shorts strike a fine balance between technical performance and everyday wearability.
At 164g (Medium), the Approach Shorts offer impressive mobility thanks to a gusseted crotch and close, unrestrictive fit. The Ascender fabric is fast-drying and surprisingly tough, holding up well to abrasion without. The waistband sits comfortably under a pack, and while I’m not always a huge fan of integrated belts, this one is secure and comfortable.
Pockets are well thought out, especially the zipped thigh pocket, which stays accessible even with a harness. They’re not dramatically different from previous versions, but the small tweaks make a solid design even better.
