A wind-resistant hooded soft shell that’s perfect for year-round mountaineering and spring ski tours
Mountain Equipment says:
The full stretch Frontier Jacket uses a double weave fabric to give total mobility and excellent wind and abrasion resistance. With our Alpine fit and adjustable helmet compatible hood it’s an exceptional soft shell for all round use in the mountains.
Our Verdict
The updated Frontier Jacket offers a dependable mix of stretch, wind resistance and breathability thanks to the EXOLITE 210 fabric. At 538g (Medium), it feels solid, with enough give for technical movement and a reassuringly tough face fabric that handles abrasion well. The fit is active and shaped, allowing for good freedom without bagginess, and the pre-shaped sleeves keep things in place even during more dynamic movement.
The hood adjusts easily and sits well over a helmet, and the pocket setup is practical without being excessive. The PFAS-free DWR reliably withstands light weather, and overall build quality remains a strong point. Breathability is excellent for a softshell of this weight, making it viable for long pushes in mixed conditions.
