Our Verdict
Black Diamond claims this is the lightest down hoodie in the world, and I won't argue. It is undoubtedly the lightest option on our site.
At 172g (Medium) with 1,000-fill down, the Deploy Hoody delivers an impressive warmth-to-weight ratio. The cut is slim, and the sleeves are long, making it easy to layer; however, those with broader builds may prefer to size up. The hood fits nicely under a helmet and features a single adjustment point; I would have welcomed a drawcord hem, but that would contradict the ultralight ethos. There are two generous internal dump pockets for gloves or a hat, and two external hand pockets.
The outer shell is exceptionally thin, so care is needed when handling rough surfaces and packing straps. This is not a jacket designed for all-day trekking, but one to deploy when you stop at the end of a run, pause for lunch, or settle into a tent. It resists light snow or mist, though in persistent wet it will quickly saturate. Treated with care, it offers superb packability and is a highly efficient option for those seeking the lightest possible insulation.
