Saxx Ball Pouch Volt Review - Trek Scotland

Posted by Trek Scotland on Jun 16, 2022

Of all the usual gear chatter amongst the outdoor community, underwear is probably the least discussed, yet a crucial piece of kit to choose correctly.  Saxx has produced a range of high-wicking underwear with us receiving the  Volt. A highly breathable mid-length boxer, which Saxx say are, ‘Designed for the go-getters, workout or play sports in complete comfort with our Volt men’s underwear.’

Certainly, what sets Saxx apart from other brands is the BallPark Pouch.  Saxx describes this as, ‘ to reduce friction and keep your man-parts in place with breathable mesh panels for chafe-free comfort and the best performance.’ Add to this their Three-D fit and you have a supportive hold that’s designed for sports activities.

The print designs are also different from other brands of this type of underwear, with a wide range of print choices, ours coming in a peanut pattern.

There is no fly which reduces the amount of stitching, keeping the volt boxers streamlined. What stitching is present is very well made. The length and slim fit are supportive, just what we usually look for when considering underwear for high-paced activities.

Our Verdict

The  Volt boxer shorts from Saxx are well-fitting, supportive, and made of a mix of lightweight polyester and elastane which are importantly comfortable to wear and highly breathable. The pin-dot mesh, which makes up the main bulk of the Volt boxers feels natural and efficiently wicks away moisture. We have worn the Volt from long days on the mountain bike to steep climbs in the West Highlands and cannot fault their performance. The BallPark Pouch is certainly an aspect which at first is noticeable, although after a few wears becomes almost unnoticeable, and was a particularly good feature travelling long distances whilst bike packing. Overall, the build is of a high quality and although the designs may be something we wouldn’t usually prioritise, there is a wide range of options and a great extra feature.
