MSR Hubba Hubba LT & HD

Mar 02, 2026

What’s the difference between the LT and the HD?

The differences are pretty notable. The HD model offers higher hydrostatic head ratings, making it tougher against the elements, while the LT is designed to be lighter and more breathable. When you place them side by side with the rainfly off, you can really see how each one shines in its own way.

The Hubba Hubba LT 2P is perfect for those warm-weather adventures. With lots of mesh on the inside, it lets in plenty of airflow and helps reduce condensation—ideal for those humid nights. Plus, it still provides solid protection with a fly rated at 1200mm and a floor rated at 1800mm, all while weighing just 1412g (not counting pegs and bags).

On the flip side, the Hubba Hubba HD 2P is all about keeping you cosy and secure in challenging weather. Its interior is made from sturdy fabric that blocks drafts and keeps in warmth. With a fly rated at 3000mm and a floor rated at a strong 6000mm, you can be confident that you’re well-protected from whatever nature throws your way. The weight comes in at 1610g (excluding pegs and bags), but that’s a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Both models offer fantastic features like a spacious floor shape, dual doors, useful porches, durable DAC poles, and thoughtful MSR design details. So, it really comes down to what you need: if you’re after a lighter, more breathable option, the LT is a great fit. But if you want something that’s built to handle tough conditions, the HD has got your back.

Our Verdict

The distinctive feature of the LT is its inner tent construction. The body is predominantly made of mesh, which provides a notably open and airy feel. This design ensures excellent breathability, continuous airflow, and effective condensation management, making it one of the tent's strongest attributes.

Weather protection remains appropriate for three-season use, but the priorities are clear. The fly is rated to 1200mm and the floor to 1800mm, which is sufficient for typical conditions while keeping overall weight down, though a footprint may be a good addition in bad weather. At 1412g (2P) excluding pegs and bags, the LT sits comfortably in the lightweight category without sacrificing interior comfort.

Taken as a whole, the Hubba Hubba LT stays true to the long-established Hubba Hubba formula, but leans firmly towards ventilation and lower weight. It feels like a deliberate, measured update, aimed at those who value space, airflow, and simplicity in a proven design.

Heavy-Duty 3-Season Protection: Heavy-duty waterproof coatings, strong and stable poles, plus minimal mesh provide durable, reliable weather resistance.

Maximum Space: True rectangular floorplan and exceptional headroom (40 in/1.02m 2P tent); two large side-entry vestibules to store gear.

Durable Poles: Strong and light DAC NFL poles stand up to variable weather conditions.

Full-Featured Rainfly: Large StayDry™ doors with built-in rain gutters and updated kickstand vents for extra ventilation.

Tech-Friendly Pockets: Cable ports on all pockets for easy cord management.

Our Verdict

Where the HD defines itself is in its material choices. The inner tent relies far more on solid, wind-resistant fabric, with mesh used sparingly. Ventilation is still present, but the priority is clearly on reducing draughts and retaining warmth when conditions are unsettled.

Weather resistance is the most obvious step forward. The fly is rated to 3000mm, and the floor to 6000mm, providing reassurance for prolonged rain and saturated ground. That extra protection brings the total weight to 1610g (2P), excluding pegs and bags, which feels well judged for a tent aimed at tougher three-season use.

Extra guy out-points are included and can be added where needed, allowing the structure to be tuned for windier conditions. Overall, the Hubba Hubba HD remains faithful to the classic Hubba Hubba design while emphasising durability and protection, without losing the layout that made it so popular.
