Montane Down Family Naming Structure
XT
The XT range has been designed to be tougher, more technical, and equipped with an extended feature set for challenging mountain use. XT products are tailored for mountaineering activities, including alpine climbing, Scottish winter days, mountain scrambling, and demanding days in the hills. This range typically features a 'mountain fit' that is cut to accommodate additional layers, along with added tailoring to facilitate high-reach movements and comfort in colder conditions.
Lite
Lite products use lighter materials and optimized features for moving faster. Montane's Lite products have been designed for fast and light days out, whether one is fastpacking, hiking, trail running, lightweight mountaineering, or moving in warmer conditions. Across their Lite range, one will find a trim fit that is closer fitting for fast-moving and high-output adventures.
Nano
Nano products are all about high-performance materials, minimalist feature sets, low weight, and tiny pack sizes without compromising on functionality. Anti-Freeze Lite
The Montane Anti Freeze Lite Down Hoodie refines insulation for fast, cold days when weight and mobility matter most.
At 309g (Medium), it uses 800 fill-power ExpeDRY goose down with synthetic panels under the arms to manage moisture during exertion. The trim fit works neatly over a base layer and mid-layer, keeping bulk low while maintaining full freedom of movement. The Pertex Quantum outer fabric is soft, quiet, and blocks wind effectively without feeling stiff. ● 60g/m² Primaloft Gold Active Vent synthetic insulation is used in the shoulders, collar and center front placket to manage moisture build up and provide durable insulation in high compression areas.
Polaron XT
The Polaron XT Down Hoodie combines 260 g (Medium) of 750-fill-power RENU ExpeDRY recycled down with a windproof 30D Pertex Quantum shell for dependable insulation in cold conditions. The extended cut provides noticeably more coverage than most down jackets. On me, in a large size, the hem reached just above my knees, making it better suited for static use or low-intensity activities such as camp wear, short hikes, or watching outdoor events in cold weather.
Two hand-warming pockets sit behind the down for maximum insulation, complemented by a single internal zipped pocket for smaller items. The cuffs are elasticated and work well with gloves, while the lack of hem adjustment keeps the design simple but limits fine-tuning in windy conditions. The hood adjusts around the face but cannot be cinched when the jacket is fully zipped, which feels like an oversight.
Warmth and comfort are excellent, the materials are top quality, and the longer design gives it a distinctive niche among down hoodies. For static warmth and casual cold-weather use, the Polaron XT is a reliable, thoughtfully built piece.
