These are spot on for comfort, fit, function and durability, the only downside being the price. However, they are by far the most hard-wearing of the models tested: after a summer of heavy use, there is no sign of wear and tear on these tough trousers. I would expect them to outlast many other models, and for this reason they are good value. Built from mixed fabrics, the reinforced areas are lighter but tougher than the main body of the
rousers, with increased elastane content for durability and lots of stretch. The fabrics used are both wind-resistant and quick-drying, and the DWR
treatment is very effective, with the plus point that it is free from harmful PFCs. The fit feels true to size. There are elastic panels on each side of the waist, and belt loops if needed. I have wide hips and a small waist; and, of all the models I tested, these fit me the best, with no danger of builder's bum no matter how I move. The ankle cuffis narrow good for keeping biting insects and ticks at bay. There's also a tab at the ankle for cinching in further, a feature that is useful for rock climbing. The pocket arrangement is good, with two zipped hip pockets, and a thigh pocket, where I like to stow my compass. These trousers are ideally suited to mountain use throughout the year, and should last a good few seasons of heavy wear.
