Cairngorm Treks Review - Gram Counter Gear Titanium Nail Pegs

Used extensively by Cairngorm Treks throughout the Cairngorms and surrounding mountainous areas, Winter 2017 – Spring 2018.
When first reading about the indestructible nature of the Gram-Counter Gear pegs we were expecting four beasts that had to be forced through the letter box. On arrival, we were slightly disheartened as a very small package almost floated through the door. Each peg is a mere 10 grams and is 130mm in length. They may be a little too short in length for some aspects of trekking, and we found ourselves using them mainly on the base of our shelters, using more technical pegs for guy lines. Don’t be fooled by their small stature as this is where is niceties end. They are surprisingly thick for their weight and have a very solid head in which a long piece of orange cord is threaded. In action the Gram-Counter Gear Titanium Nail Pegs are a strong performer, as advertised they can strike into very solid rocky ground and once in place keep a decent hold. Are they unbreakable… we certainly think so, with absolutely no signs of bending or damage, and we have used these pegs in some pretty solid areas high throughout the Cairngorms.
Our Verdict
These wee beasts will become a favourite amongst any seasoned multi-day trekker. Light in weight and a very solid build. Combine these with a separate choice of peg, and a small shelter will be kept in place in even the toughest of terrains. Everyone likes a peg they can put their trust in and the Gram-Counter Gear Titanium Nail Pegs have become one which we bring along on most expeditions.
