Our Verdict
The Sambob Alpha 90 Hoodie uses Polartec Alpha Direct (90gsm), a fabric known for its excellent breathability and warmth during high-output efforts. The wide fit is effectively the men’s version, with a straighter cut and slightly more room in the torso. At around 150g (size large), it's a fantastic insulation piece for cool-weather hiking, or as a midlayer under a wind shell. The hood includes a simple drawcord adjustment that adds a nice touch of weather protection, especially useful when layering under a wind jacket. The fabric is incredibly soft, wicks moisture well, and dries fast—but it’s delicate and must be treated carefully to avoid snags. The open structure makes it exceptionally thermoregulating, though wind can cut through it if worn alone.
