Our Verdict
Montane’s Alhena T-Shirt has become a regular in my kit for warm-weather hikes and travel. At 158g (size M), it’s made from a clever drirelease wool blend—mostly recycled polyester with a touch of merino and elastane—which gives it a natural feel, decent stretch, and much better moisture handling than a typical cotton tee. It dries quickly and breathes well, and the Polygiene odour control does a great job of keeping it wearable for multiple days without needing a wash. The cut is relaxed but neat, and the Merrow stitch seams sit flat, so there’s no rubbing even under a pack. It’s not a pure base layer or a classic wool tee, but somewhere comfortably in between—making it ideal for those middle-ground days when you want performance without the plasticky feel.
If you like your technical layers to feel natural but still hold their own on the hill, this one’s worth a spot in the drawer.
