The Hyperlite Mountain Gear Windrider 55 in Black DCH150 has quickly become a reliable pack for multi-day backpacking trips and thru-hikes, offering the same design strengths as the DCH50 version but with added durability. Weighing around 958 grams in the medium size, this 55-litre pack made from 150-denier Dyneema Composite Hybrid fabric is well-suited to the rigours of demanding terrain, providing a stricter barrier against abrasions without adding excessive weight.
The pack's storage setup is excellent, with a spacious main compartment secured by a roll-top closure, which allows for flexible volume management and effective weatherproofing. The three external mesh pockets are handy—they’re ideal for storing damp or quick-access items like a water filter or rain jacket. These mesh pockets are convenient but require some care when packing as they lack elasticity and could snag. For extra compression and organisation, accessory straps help keep everything in place.
The padded shoulder straps and hip belt ensure even weight distribution, and two removable aluminium stays provide added support, especially with loads up to 18 kilograms. Although it handles heavier weights, this pack shines with loads under 14 kilograms, making it incredibly comfortable on longer treks. The hip belt pockets are thoughtful, keeping essentials like snacks or a map readily accessible.
