Streamlined and ultralight, the Waypoint 35 is designed for those who value simplicity and durability in their multi-day treks.
Hyperlite Mountain Gear says:
Our lightest and lowest-volume internally-framed model, this 35L pack is designed for on-trail or off-trail backpacking for a range of trips and experience levels. This pack is great for long trails with reliable resupply, any multi-day trip with a low-volume kit, and technical pursuits when 40L is just too much.
Our Verdict
The Hyperlite Mountain Gear Waypoint 35 is a top choice for ultralight enthusiasts, blending minimal weight with functional design for multi-day treks and technical pursuits. Weighing in at a remarkable 686 grams, this 35-litre pack feels nearly weightless while delivering reliable durability and comfort, even through rugged terrain. Constructed from Dyneema Composite Fabric, it stands up to the elements while remaining highly weather-resistant—a feature I appreciate on unpredictable trails.
The refreshingly streamlined design features a roll-top closure that allows me to adjust volume as needed while protecting everything from the elements. The front stretch mesh pocket is a standout for storing quick-access items, and the side pockets are perfect for water bottles or additional essentials. The shoulder straps come with integrated mesh pockets, a small yet invaluable addition for storing items like my phone or snacks on the go.
I also appreciate the versatility of the removable hip belt, which is equipped with pockets and can be detached when I need to save weight, especially on day hikes. With its internal aluminium frame stay and foam back panel, the Waypoint 35 transfers weight effectively to the hips, providing lasting comfort even during extended treks. It’s particularly well-suited for those with a base weight of around 4.5 kilograms, balancing comfort and load capacity up to around 11 kilograms.
While the Waypoint 35 excels for lightweight applications, the 35-litre capacity may be limited for hikers needing more supplies or equipment. It’s a minimalist design, so less internal organisation might not appeal to everyone. However, this pack delivers in every essential aspect for those prioritising weight savings.
Overall, the Waypoint 35 is a well-crafted ultralight option for those seeking a durable, minimalist pack that doesn’t compromise the essentials. Its blend of functionality, weight, and high-quality materials make it an ideal companion for backcountry adventures where every gram counts.
