Exceptionally warm and protective. A proven alpine mitt built for harsh winter conditions and extended use in the cold.
Black Diamond says:
The Black Diamond Super Light mitt takes a fully waterproof, high-altitude mountaineering mitt and adds incredible packability. The 100% waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX insert with XCR Product Technology and PrimaLoft Kodenshi insulation shield you from the elements of the world's highest peaks, while the Pertex 15D ripstop shell and sheep skin leather palm make it packable and durable enough for frigid days in the backcountry.
Our Verdict
The Black Diamond Super Light GTX Mitts deliver serious warmth and protection for demanding alpine, mountain use. At 267 g (Medium), they’re light for their insulation level, combining a GORE-TEX waterproof membrane with thick PrimaLoft Kodenshi fill for impressive insulation. The Pertex outer shell feels durable yet compressible, while the leather palm provides a secure grip on poles or tools.
Dexterity is reasonable for mitts; the pre-curved shape makes them comfortable when worn for prolonged periods. The inner lining is soft and dries quickly, though the insulation around the palm can feel less lofty after extended use. Overall, these are reliable, well-built mitts for alpine or ski mountaineering where warmth and waterproofing take priority over fine dexterity.
