Our Verdict
The Montbell SUPER DRY-TEC Peak Shell Jacket offers an impressive blend of performance and ultralight design for outdoor enthusiasts. Utilising Montbell's proprietary SUPER DRY-TEC fabric, this jacket provides excellent waterproofing (20,000 mm) and exceptional breathability (50,000 g/m²/24 hrs).
For such a lightweight shell, it has a rich feature set. It has a 3-way adjustable hood (though I found the toggles around the face a little cumbersome), weather-resistant zippers, and deep pit zips for ventilation.
The jacket's use of a 7-denier nylon ripstop is particularly noteworthy. This makes it incredibly lightweight and packable, and the PFC-free construction is a bonus for environmentally-conscious hikers.
The cut is high, around the belt line, and the hem can be cinched in with a drawcord. It’s a European fit, so we wouldn't suggest sizing up. One drawback worth commenting on is that the Peak Shell only has a chest pocket and no hand-warming pockets.
Overall, the Montbell SUPER DRY-TEC Peak Shell Jacket is an excellent choice for hikers and backpackers seeking a high-performance, ultralight rain shell.
