The Black Diamond Sprinter Headlamp is a high-output, rechargeable lighting system, designed for running, hiking and any other activities when the sun goes down.
Black Diamond says
A light that easily fits into the pocket of your running shorts or vest and is virtually unnoticeable on your head, the Black Diamond Sprint225 is purpose-built to power fast-paced morning runs or post-work trail sessions. With 225 lumens on the max setting with an average 2.5 hours of burn time, the lithium ion battery is rechargeable via USB, and the light’s storm proof IPX4 rating protects against rain and sleet from any angle. In addition, the Sprint225 utilizes our updated optical efficiency, which provides brighter light with more peak intensity, plus now you can easily track battery life with a six-setting, three-LED batter meter. The Brightness Memory feature allows you to turn the light on and off at a chosen brightness without reverting back to the default setting, and the Sprint225’s PowerTap Technology makes for instant brightness adjustment with the tap of your finger. Finally, the light’s vari-width headband is lightweight, packable, and stays comfortably in place on high-output runs.
Our Verdict
Black Diamond's Sprint 225 Headlamp is a great headlamp for runners who want to get moving come rain or shine, day or night. When using the light on the maximum 225 lumens, you still get a solid 2 hours battery life out of it which is more than enough for my runs. And if your really determined to run longer than 2 hours you can easily turn down the strength with a simple tap of the headlamp.
The developments in the PowerTap controls and Brightness Memory have now filtered down from the top of the range models to the lightest weight version here giving you some seriously impressive performance. The more you fiddle about with the settings and practice using it the more you'll get out of it when you're running.
The weight of the Sprint 225 is a huge improvement on similar versions in the past. The change from standard batteries to a rechargeable lithium battery mean that you don't even notice it once you start running. The charging time is pretty reasonable too, just remember to pop it on charge as soon as your get in from your run, that way it's ready to go the next time you need it.
