The Hestra Seam Sealed Mitts are lightweight, packable, and offer wind and water resistance. They have fully taped seams, a snowlock cuff, and an elasticized wrist cinch. The roomy fit allows for a liner glove underneath.
Hestra says:
A light shell glove in waterproof, breathable 3-layer fabric. Provides protection from wind, wet and snow when hiking, skiing or out in the mountains, forests or countryside. Easy to roll up in a pocket or rucksack when not in use, ready to bring out when the weather suddenly turns. Ideal as an extra reinforcement layer on top of a base glove. Size guide: Only available in sizes 7, 9 and 11. If you wear a size 7 glove normally, choose a size 7 shell glove. If you wear a size 8 glove normally, you will need to go up a size and wear a size 9 shell glove.
Our Verdict
The Hestra Seam Sealed Mitts are a lightweight and packable shell glove option perfect for adding weatherproof protection over a liner glove. Made from a durable 3-layer polyester fabric, they provide excellent wind and waterproofing (10,000mm) while still allowing ample breathability (5,000g/m2/24hr). The gloves are fully taped seams with a high cuff with snowlock to seal out powder, and an elasticized wrist cinch.
What makes these mitts so versatile is their minimalist design that can easily be thrown in a pocket or pack when not needed, yet quickly deployed when wind, rain or snow rolls in. The roomy fit accommodates a thin liner glove underneath to boost warmth.
While quite basic, the Seam Sealed Mitts deliver reliable waterproof/breathable performance from a quality brand like Hestra. The mitten style also traps heat better than gloves.
