Our Verdict
Sealskinz' Dunton Waterproof Warm Weather Mid Length Sock with Hydrostop are a great option for emergency waterproof layers or to be combined with not waterproof footwear on wet days. The materials have improved greatly in recent years, softening up and becoming more comfortable, but they still have a very obvious neoprene feel to them. Some people won't mind this, I don't when using the for road cycling or mountain biking but for walking a very thin liner sock makes them much more comfortable.
The Hydrostop seal works well at keeping out water that may simply run down your leg or through fabric and get into the top of the sock like on the older version of these socks. However, these are meant to be 'warm weather' socks and the seal created does get uncomfortable in warm conditions or when you are heating up while walking after you've been wearing them for a few hours. This is manageable but not ideal.

So we invented Hydrostop™, a silicone-like (although it is silicone-free) elastic taping around the inside cuff of the sock. This added protection reduces the chances of water dripping down your leg into your sock. Problem solved.

If you are at the top of a size such as a UK 8 to 8 1/2 we recommend you move up in size as our waterproof socks are thicker than normal socks.

- Technology: We pioneered the use of a unique hydrophilic membrane that's 100% waterproof yet pulls moisture away from your skin at the molecular level -- keeping you dry and cool all at the same time. With a Hydrostatic Head of >20,000mm and the addition of Hydrostop™ technology, which creates a barrier between your skin and the sock to help prevent water from coming in through the top of the sock, our socks stay waterproof under the toughest of conditions. Please note that due to the close bond between sock cuff and skin, over prolonged use, some people may experience minor skin irritation due to the Hydrostop™ barrier rubbing against the skin. For those who experience any irritation, we recommend that Hydrostop™ socks are only used outdoors and not for a prolonged period of time.
