Our Verdict
The Rain Trekker Jacket 2.0 marks a distinct shift from its predecessor. Moving from a 2-layer Windstopper to a more robust 3-layer GORE-TEX construction, it feels like a different jacket entirely, heavier, but also more dependable in sustained wet weather. The 50-denier face fabric gives a welcome sense of durability without feeling stiff or overbuilt, and the K-Mono cut keeps movement unrestricted. At 334g (Medium), it’s no longer ultralight, but it packs down neatly and carries well.
I wear a Large and found the slightly more relaxed fit spot on—easy to layer over a fleece without feeling baggy. The tri-axial hood tracks well and provides solid coverage in wind and rain. Montbell’s attention to detail is evident in features like bonded cuffs and smart seam reduction, which enhance comfort and minimise bulk. The absence of pit zips is notable, but breathability holds up well even on steeper climbs.
With its improved weather resistance and more challenging build, this version feels better suited to mixed and unpredictable conditions. A considered update that broadens the Rain Trekker’s appeal beyond fast-and-light users.
