The new version of the shelter is made of Tyvek™ material — a synthetic material that is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) fibers using the flashspun method. The material is very strong, it is difficult to tear, but it is easy to cut with scissors or a knife. The material is breathable, that why water vapor can pass through the fabric, but at the same time it does not let water through. It is these properties that make Tyvek useful for tarps shelters and footprints. The weight of the material is about 42.5 g / m. sq.
Area of inner living space more than 4 sq.m. PyraOmm Duo Tarp is setup on trekking pole in the center or on 2 trekking poles in A-form for increase inner living space or suspended for the top. For setup you need minimum 4 pegs. Stakes and poles are not included. Small packed size and volume.
Pitching with either PYRAOMM DUO HALF MESH or PYRAOMM DUO FULL MESH you get an ultralight frameless two-layer shelter.
Features of the technology - the tarp is glued at all main seams. This means that there is no need for additional sealing of the seams, as in the 1.1 oz version of Silpoly 20D.
SETUP IN 4 STEPS -
- Stretch corners with pegs in the shape of a regular rectangle;
- Put the trekking pole from the inside to the top of the tent vertically about 130 cm. For this, it is provided special protective pocket for poles or A-frame made of Ultra™ 100 at the top inside the tarp;
- Tight the cords for the tension of the shelter;
- Add and tension additional cords on additional loops.
Our Verdict
Light, breathable, and surprisingly tough — a no-frills pyramid tarp that punches well above its weight.
At just 444g, the PyraOmm Duo Tarp in Tyvek is about as minimal as two-person shelters get, but it still manages to feel functional rather than stripped back. The pyramid pitch is stable in wind, ample floor space for two and the 130 cm high means there is plenty of headroom, though Liteway do not recommend this tent if you are over 185cm tall (6.1 feet)
The Tyvek is the talking point. It’s lightweight, breathable, and highly water-resistant, holding up well in damp conditions while allowing moisture to escape, which helps with overnight condensation. It's also far more robust than it looks. That said, it's bulky in the pack and rustles a fair bit in the wind until broken in. It’s no beauty queen either, but function wins out here.
Dual AquaGuard doors, reinforced tie-out points, and included guylines make setup fast and flexible. For the weight, it’s hard to argue with.
