If you are looking to stay warm in colder temperatures on you winter adventures then the Western Mountaineering Puma MF is a top choice offering a very high level of warm an comfort.

Western Mountaineering says

Known by Volcanologists the world over you’d think this Puma MF was filled with high lofting lava! 9.5″ of loft, 36 oz. of 850+ fill power down, two densely packed Interlocking Draft Tubes and a full down filled collar will keep you in the ring of fire till 25 below zero. Its VBlock Side Baffle provides phenomenal down control, so necessary in a bag with this much loft. You get a 64″ shoulder girth so that there’s even room for layering. The MicroLite XP™ shell has superior breathability while being extremely water resistant. This bundle of warmth weighs in at just 3 lb. 7 oz. total weight.

Our Verdict

Western Mountaineering's Puma MF Down Sleeping Bag, is the warmest bag that we sell with a comfort rating of -32°C this bag is designed to be used in the coldest conditions yet keep you feeling snug and cosy.

As you would expect form a bag of this level of rating it is very comfortable and the high level of quality 850 down is kept in control thanks to the VBlock side baffles that keep you warm all round and stop any movement of the down which is usually a challenge in a bag with so much fill. This is certainly one of the comfiest bags I have every used but not just because of the warmth but also the general fit. The shoulder width in the Puma is great and gives you the ability to move around without restriction. The hood is on the larger side even with adjustment, but this makes it easy to get a pillow into.

There were some niggles but they are things that can be easily resolved, such as the internal zip pull is a bit fiddly in such a filled bag, but this was easily be fixed with a bit of cord. The main stuff sack for the Puma was also not very compressible, so I used a proper compression sack which helped shave a bit of the pack size.

* Western Mountaineering state: 'We independently verify own temperature ratings through our own testing, customer feedback and design knowledge. Most of the items in our catalog we have been making for years, which means we have lots of prior knowledge from everyday consumers on what ratings are accurate. We have also EN tested our bags. In every case the EN rating is lower than our posted rating. This means our ratings are more conservative. We do this to ensure that almost everyone will be happy in our bags at the temperature we publish.'
