Our Verdict
The Outdoor Research Seattle Rain Hat is a reliable companion for wet-weather adventures. Its Gore-Tex waterproof material provides robust protection. The wide brim design keeps rain off the face and neck (and glasses if you are bespectacled like me), making it an excellent choice for hiking or any water-based adventure. Thanks to the foam-stiffened brim, it even floats—perfect for those unpredictable slips into streams or lakes.
Comfort is enhanced with a soft tricot lining and an internal adjustment system, which I appreciated for a more tailored fit. While some may miss the previous Velcro adjuster, the chin cord secures the hat well in windier conditions. The UPF 50+ rating offers solid sun protection, though this hat is better suited to wetter climates where breathability is less of a concern.
At 78-91g, depending on size, it’s lightweight and packable, ideal for multi-day trips. Eco-conscious hikers will also appreciate its recycled materials, which are Bluesign-approved. A snug hood may be more effective in alpine winds, but for rain and moderate wind, the Seattle Rain Hat performs impressively.
