We think the OMM Mountain Raid 233 synthetic sleeping bag is an excellent bag, although not EN Tested the insulation is premium. Good design, great insulation.
OMM says:
The NEW Mountain Raid 233 uses the thicker Primaloft® Cross-Core GOLD insulation to expand the temperature range of the bag, constructed from a combination of materials to ensure maximum performance. The PointZero shell has a DWR treatment to aid water repellency and Primaloft insulation.
Our Verdict
OMM don't put their sleeping bags through EN Testing (presumably because its very costly) but it's a pity because I think the Mountain Raid 233 would come out very well, afterall it's filled with some of the best synthetic insulation available so it has to be at the top of the pile when compared to other synthetic bags.
OMM have put heavier insulation on the top and lighter weight on the base, which makes sense because the base tends to get crushed and become less effective and anyway if you are using a sleeping mat then it will provide a degree of insulation so arguably the insulation is better on the top where it can expand and trap air effectively.
The construction of the bag is great, it has a generous hood with a perimeter drawcord and a decent foot section. To save weight OMM have gone with a short zip, sensibly placed on the top of the bag towards the left hand edge.
Well designed and high quality insulation, all in one package.
