The Loris is a new day pack from Gossamer Gear that can also be used as an overnight bag for a very lightweight and simple camping setup. The most striking feature is the large vertical zipper on the over-the-top closure system, which allows for quick access to the interior of the bag. The Loris is an extremely user-friendly pack with innovations that I hope to see in future Gossamer Gear packs.

Our Verdict
I have been a fan of Gossamer Gear packs since I first used the Mariposa. The Loris is a smaller version of the Mariposa, marketed as a day pack or daily commuter pack. However, with careful packing, it could also be used as an overnight pack for a very light and straightforward camping setup.
I packed the bag with a seven-kilogram kit list, and the bag carried the weight comfortably. Seven-kilogram is more weight than most people would need in the bag. It is worth noting that the Loris does not have waist straps, which are designed to distribute the pack's weight better. As a result, your shoulders will be doing all of the work.
The most notable and innovative addition is the large vertical zip on the over-the-top closure system. This allows for rapid access to the entire inner bag so that you can quickly and easily route around for your mid-layer, gloves, headtorch, etc. That feature adds to the bag's usability on the trail or the commute.
The Loris has two stretchy water bottle pouches on either side of the pack, which are a tad small. You can comfortably fit a 1-litre bottle in the side pockets, but a standard Nalgene bottle would be too big. The pack also has a large stretchy mesh pocket on the front of the bag that is good for stashing items you wish to have close at hand, such as waterproofs.
The Loris has two zippered pockets: one on the lid, which is good for keeping low-profile items, but as the pack fills, it becomes less user-friendly. Inside, a zippered pocket is more accessible, especially with its vertical zipper opening, and is a better place to store items you want to keep secure. Behind this zippered pocket is a full back sleeve that can hold a water bladder or a laptop case.
The well-padded, breathable, and comfortable straps are as good as we’ve come to expect from Gossamer Gear. They help to carry the load comfortably. Two stretchy mesh pockets, one on each strap, are perfect for holding your phone, sunglasses, GPS, or a water bottle close at hand.
The padded back is removable and can be used as a seat pad. There are also straps for hiking poles and a loop for an ice axe. While I can't see myself taking this pack mountain climbing in the winter, it's still a nice addition.
Overall, I am very excited about this pack. It is incredibly user-friendly, with innovations I hope to see on future Gossamer Gear packs.
