A vast pack full of nice usable features, a tad on the heavy side for the ultra-light backpacker, but with a really good entry price point and really impressive load carrying capability, this is a very good backpack for those who like to take more home comforts out on the trail with them.
Sierra Designs says
Made for weekend warriors and thru-hikers alike, the Gigawatt 60-Liter backpack has all the features to keep you comfortable on any backpacking trip - long or short. Built with an advanced perimeter frame and external compression straps, this top-loading backpack stabilizes the brunt of your gear for better weight distribution and all-day adventuring. Oversized external mesh pockets and zippered hip belt pockets keep layers and essentials within arm’s reach, and the zippered lid with internal organization means the little things stay right where you left them. Made to last with durable materials to handle the tough terrain you hike through.
Our Verdict
Built around an advanced perimeter frame, this backpack has brilliant weight distribution, a well-padded back, large load-spreading shoulder straps, and a cushioned hip belt, which all make this a very comfortable pack to have on all day. The adjustable suspension fits torsos size 16 - 21”, it’s important to tailor the bag to your size to optimally carry large loads.
The hip belt is cinched in at 4 points, as opposed to the traditional 2, this not only gives a better-fitted pack, but it also helps the pack adjust as you move, preventing hotspots and irritation. The hip belt pockets are vast, easily the largest I've seen on any rucksack, and can easily accommodate a phone, camera, GPS device, and all the snacks you need, seriously they are huge.
The 2 mesh side pockets and large front mesh pocket provide a lot of very accessible storage, brilliant for storing water bottles, and additional layers such as waterproofs. A zip along the side mesh pocket allows for access into the main compartment of the bag, this is good for quick access without having to fully open the bag.
The top opening of the bag is a butterfly opening which makes for quick access without having to unbuckle the back, and doing away with the need for a drawcord, simplifying access.
