The Ortlieb Frame Pack is a good sized waterproof pack capable of carrying heavier pieces of kit without affecting your ride. As with the rest of the Ortlieb bikepacking range this is a high quality product that is well designed, with a strong durable construction.

The ORTLIEB Frame-Pack allows you to exploit your bike frame to create valuable stowage. Thanks to its lower center of gravity below your top tube, the Frame-Pack makes for an ideal stowage location for heavy gear such as tools, camping stoves and food supplies.
The proven, waterproof nylon fabric and the waterproof zipper ensure that your things remain absolutely dry even in the most inclement of weather. Mounting the Frame-Pack with the ultra-strong Velcro straps to the top tube, seat tube and down tube is a snap. The Frame-Pack is available in a 4-liter size and a 6-liter size – depending on the size of your bike frame.
Our Verdict
The Ortlieb Frame Pack is obviously a high quality piece of kit like the rest of the range. The strong materials used to provide the waterproofing and solid straps illustrate the durability of this pack and the thoughtful design make it really easy to mount onto the frame. The pack comes in two sizes, 4L and 6L, which hold a good amount but won't store everything you need for an overnight trip. These are perfect for getting weight off your back or taking a few extras during a longer day and it works perfectly with other packs like the handle bar and seat packs for bigger adventures.
Both 4L and 6L packs are just 6cm deep which means there is no interference when riding with your knees catching on it. It was barely noticeable on most long rides even on hard uphill slogs. The zip on it is heavy duty so there are no questions over durability but it does stop you trying to grab something out without stopping. Due to the placement of the pack it does not affect the general feel and balance of the bike when riding so it is ideal for heavier items like tools or stoves. The frame pack is perfect for hardtail bikes but the frame shape and rear suspension design may prohibit its use with a lot of dual suspension bikes. The pack is solid so won't bend or squeeze into all frame shapes.
