Our Verdict
Constructed from bluesign-approved, 2-layered Gore-Tex fabric, this ultralight jacket is incredibly durable, and the newly updated version is far more sustainable, constructed from 100% recycled 50D Polyester. The foray II boasts some impressive stats, including a hydrostatic head of 28,000 and a thermal evaporative resistance (RET) of 4.5, providing excellent breathability. However, like all waterproofs it can become too warm and sweaty during strenuous activities despite its high breathability. To address this issue, the Foray jacket features unique and innovative pit-zips, the largest on the market.
The renowned TorsoFlo zips extend from the armpits down to the hem. The dual zip design allows for adjustable airflow, from completely closed to almost entirely open, transforming the jacket into a cape or poncho. This novel design provides unparalleled ventilation.
The fully adjustable hood offers excellent protection, with the exception of the peak, which is made of foam rather than stiffened with wire. This design choice makes the jacket more packable but compromises the protection offered by a wired peak. It's a matter of personal preference, but worth noting.
A zipped chest pocket protected by a YKK Aquaguard Zip provides secure storage space for keys and valuables. Two large hand-warming pockets extend upwards into the jacket, a convenient feature when wearing a rucksack or harness. The main front zip is also protected by an Aquaguard Zip and backed by a storm flap for maximum protection.
The jacket fits well, with ample room for layering without becoming baggy or billowing in strong winds. The cuffs can be cinched with Velcro fastenings, and a drawcord runs around the hem, with the fastenings neatly stored inside the jacket to prevent snagging or tangling.
