Our Verdict

The Extravert Gloves from Outdoor Research excel in any extreme environment; these are hard-core gloves best suited to expeditions, skiing, and ice climbing. The outer glove has been constructed from a very tough 88% nylon, 12% spandex blend reinforced with goat leather around most of the glove, with textured goat leather upon the palm, fingers and thumb; this aids with grip. The back of the thumb is backed with a suede material to wipe your nose. The inner part of the glove has been lined with wool fleece and synthetic blend, which provides excellent insulation but also aids with wicking and breathability.

The Extravert Gloves are made of hardwearing nylon and leather, making them windproof and water-resistant. While not waterproof, they still provide excellent protection from the elements. The gloves can be put on with a convenient Pull-On Loop, which is useful for cold fingers, and removed with a similar loop on the middle finger. The gloves can be cinched around the wrist for a more tailored fit.

They are a tad bulky, so some dexterity is lost, but this is to be expected with a glove designed to be used in extreme conditions. The work as a stand-alone layer would not fit in well with a glove layering system, though a waterproof mitt could be used with them in very damp conditions.

They have an excellent fit, and the fingers are pre-curved and anatomically stitched, so they are easy to manipulate and bend with your fingers, which reduces fatigue with extended wear.
