Lyo offer expedition meals using natural, fresh ingredients and no preservatives or artificial additives. They stand out from the crowd with unique recipes, the use of chunky ingredients that result in more natural, home style meals. 

LYO says

Soft and tender chicken pieces, protein-rich beans, golden sweet corn and vegetables. All these ingredients are delicious spiced and cooked in one pot. Then served with white rice. Ay, caramba!

We are cooking before freeze-drying. In our pouches there are no artificial additives, no extra sugar, no palm oil and no preservatives! Our meals are made from 100% natural ingredients and some of them are growing on our own fields.

Our Verdict

LYO have tried to take a different route with their meals focussing on natural, fresh ingredients and no preservatives or artificial additives. They proudly cultivate some of the fruits and herbs on their own fields. Other fruits and herbs as well as vegetables come from farmers known to them personally. All ingredients are carefully verified to ensure that their products meet the highest quality standards.

The majority of the meals use interesting combinations of natural ingredients with chunky vegetables, authentic flavours and more of a home cooked approach. We’ve been lucky enough to test a variety of them and have always been impressed with the end results. Generally, we appreciated the good combinations of flavour, texture and portion size.

The fill line for adding water to the packs is novel with a blue area from the bottom showing how much water is required. It is quite a subtle design feature that can be easy to miss and some form of internal indicator would be best but it still works.

STAFF'S TASTE TEST - Small pack, Only 359kcals. I was intrigued to see what the Mexican dish was, the main ingredients are chicken breast fillets and rice. It did have some red kidney beans in it. The reconstitution was excellent but it was pretty tasteless to me. Big lumps of chicken reconstituted well. However the whole meal lacked taste, if you feel like freeze dried meals are all very spicy then this one might be a good choice, for me though 7/10.
