Our Verdict
The Mountain Equipment Citadel Hat is a well-built mountain hat designed for winter conditions, featuring a GORE-TEX INFINIUM shell and a deep-pile lining for dependable warmth and reliable windproofing. At 79g (S/M), it feels substantial without being heavy.
The ear flaps provide excellent coverage and sit comfortably against the head. The short peak is effective at deflecting snow and light rain, while taped seams enhance resistance in wet, windy weather. Breathability is better than expected for such a warm hat, preventing excessive overheating unless conditions are relatively mild. The robust build and thoughtful details, including the secure chin strap, make this a dependable option for demanding winter mountain use where warmth and stability matter most.
