Our Verdict
Weighing 171g (Medium), the Bergtagen Merino 190 Long Johns use a fine merino knit that feels exceptionally smooth against the skin, with a close fit that layers easily under trousers or shell bottoms. The waistband and gusseted crotch provide comfort without bulk, and the cuffs sit neatly inside boots. Breathability is strong enough to prevent overheating during moderate exertion, while the fabric still retains warmth even when damp.
Without doubt, among the most comfortable wool bottoms I have worn, and there is an argument for them being my new favourite winter base layer. For me, they would be perfect as dry tent clothes at camp: warm, odour-resistant and easy to wear for long stretches. While not the fastest-drying compared to synthetics, the overall comfort and performance make them a dependable winter option.
