Backpacking the Tour of Mont Blanc
The Tour of Mont Blanc is a circular route of about a week that circles the Mont Blanc massif rewarding the backpacker with some fantastic views of the summit and surrounding mountains. Passing through three countries the route is a succession of climbs and descents passing through and close to many alpine villages and a few towns.
Although not a remote trek by any stretch of the imagination its still a serious undertaking with considerable height gain and loss compared to some other routes I've hiked. Most people make use of the extensive hut network and you can complete the full route without ever having pitched a tent or cooked your self a meal - but its also possible to backpack the whole route camping at selected spots on the way - as I did.
This report covers how I did it - where and when we camped, resupply, getting there and back, costs and photos. If you're thinking of backpacking this route read on..
