Our Verdict
The Outdoor Research Shadow Insulated Mitts are my go-to for keeping my hands warm on the trail. When I need a bit more insulation, they offer breathable warmth that works great on their own or as part of a layered glove system.
I struggle with cold fingers, and these mitts have been a lifesaver. They keep my hands warm without overheating, even during high-output activities. They’re perfect for chilly early spring or late autumn hikes, though they might be a bit much when the temperature climbs above freezing and work weill in colder temperature, paired with a liner glove.
While they’re not fully waterproof, the water-resistant material has been fine for damp conditions, and they fit nicely under a waterproof over-mitt when needed. They’re also easy to get on and off, with a handy pull-on tab and stretchy cuffs that seal in warmth.
