A versatile softshell vest that strikes a good balance between protection and breathability.
Mountain Equipment says:
A highly breathable Soft Shell vest that's an essential layer whether used on intimidating limestone walls or multi-day alpine treks. Using full stretch, double weave Soft Shell; fabric the Frontier Vest balances exceptional breathability against protection from freezing wind for early starts on north facing walls. Our Active fit layers perfectly over a base layer or lightweight fleece.
Our Verdict
I'm a fan of a vest as an insulating layer, I find them to be the most versatile bit of kit, just as useful in summer as in the winter. Unlike most vests, this isn’t a dedicated insulating layer, but more of a protective shell. Protecting the body from wind and all but the worst of the rain, while not increasing bulk or hampering movement. This makes the jacket very versatile, as it can be incorporated in any layering system, either as a mid, or outer layer.
The 3 pockets, 2 zipped hand pockets, and a Napoleon chest pocket are all mesh lined which helps with ventilation and provides ample storage and places to warm your hands.
I usually take a size medium, but the large fitted me better, so that is something to take into account.
