Mountain Equipment's Firelite sleeping bag is from their Extreme Light range and uses 900 Fill Power down and some redesigned baffle techniques to produce some of the best performing bags available.
Mountain Equipment says:
For ultra-light backpacking and alpinism it is difficult to conceive a bag so reliably warm being any lighter. Perfect for high mountain use during the summer and at lower altitudes in Spring and Autumn.
Our Verdict
Mountain Equipment's Firelite Down Sleeping Bag is part of their Extreme Light range which are among the highest performing bags available. They use 900 Fill Power down and a new baffle construction technique to achieve some awesome figures.
Design wise Mountain Equipment's sleeping bags are superb, the hood and footboxes are particularly well designed with multiple baffle sections to give them shape and structure. The Extreme Light bags have a built in neck collar rather than an out and out shoulder baffle - this saves weight and is pretty good in use.
There's a DWR coating on the outer shell which is PFC free, this will give the bag some resilience to a damp environment. As an ultralight backpacker I think these bags are what dreams are made of (see what I did there?).
