Our Verdict
Light, at 81g and breathable, the Black Diamond Desert Mullet is built on the Distance Cap silhouette but adds a removable neck shield for better sun protection on exposed terrain. The short brim gives good visibility, and the fabric wicks well. I found the neck cover effective in high UV, and being detachable means it adapts easily. The only thing I’d improve on is adding a way to secure the flap in the wind, but it's fantastic for long days out in low-breeze or alpine conditions. Fit is dialled and the whole package feels well thought out, without straying into gimmick territory.
