Our Verdict
Outdoor Research's Cirque II Pants use a tough 90D softshell fabric to produce a solid, reliable winter pant. The fabric used provides a great level of protection from the wind and rain while still stretching and moving really well. The tough material is designed to give enough stretch for a wide range of movement without sacrificing the protection. Due to the heavy weight nature of the pants they are a bit too warm for mild days on the hills but work really well when there's a cold wind or temperatures drop.
Practically, these pants have some good sized pockets, harness compatible waist and an avalanche beacon pocket for serious trips out in the winter. Despite some of the more technical features they are also good general hill pants for the cold with ankle zips and boot lace hooks adding to the practical design.
