Ladakh 2016 - Intro Page

Posted by Mark Richardson on Sep 01, 2016

Ladakh is situated in the far North of India in the shadow of the Great Himalaya Range and as such has closer cultural ties with Tibet than with the lower regions of India. It offers superb trekking in a high altitude desert environment ranging from 2500 to 5000m, and although remote there is a tourist trekking infrastructure centred around the capital city Leh.

In September 2016 we spent three weeks in the region and completed two treks, the popular 'Markha Valley Trek' and the more remote Lamayuru to Chilling.

Mark was the founder of Ultralight Outdoor Gear back in 2006 and has completed long distance backpacking routes in some of the remotest parts of the world. His favourite hikes have been Torres del Paine (full circuit), the John Muir trail and the Markha Valley trail (Ladakh, India). Although semi-retired Mark has not lost any enthusiasm for minimalist backpacking and is tackling Scotland’s Munros choosing multi-day backpacking routes over the more usual guide book excursions.
