Combining the adjustment ease and security of Black Diamond's redesigned FlickLock Pro with the quick deployment and easy collapsibility of their new SmashLock technology, the Trail Pro offers reliable performance on day hikes or in the mountains.
Black Diamond says
With a huge range of adjustment with a well-balanced, durable design, the Trail Pro is a reliable, high-performance pole for everything from day hikes in the Adirondacks to multi-day treks in Nepal. The pole’s redesigned FlickLock Pro adjustability is now lighter, stronger, and easier to use, while featuring a forged aluminum construction, making for fast, secure and easy adjustments to suit the terrain. This adjustability is combined with our new SmashLock quick release technology, which is a quick-release mechanism that allows you to quickly deploy the telescoping pole and lock it into place with an easy-to-hear click (keep FlickLock Pro closed during deployment). Then, with the FlickLock Pro open, swiflty and firmly press the tip of the pole into the trail to release the SmashLock for a quick collapse. The Trail Pro’s updated grip is now softer and more ergonomic while the strap draws inspiration from our harness technology for better security around the wrist and better handling when tackling steep terrain. Interchangeable carbide tech tips grip a variety of trail surfaces, from desert slickrock to tacky dirt.
Sold as a pair.
Black Diamond have tweaked a few things for the latest incarnation of the Trail Pros. Firstly the SmashLock, it works really well and you can have your poles collapsed in a flash. You only need to undo one flicklock in order to collapse all 3 sections of the pole. Apparently it saves a bit of weight, which can only be a couple of grams but every little helps. It's also more secure than a flick lock and therefore is much less likely to fail whilst in use. So there are some really good benefits, but it's not a game changer for trekking poles.
They've updated the way their handle straps adjust which is a lot easier (pull top strap to loosen and down on the bottom strap to tighten). The handle also gets an update with slightly softer foam. Overall some nice updates to a BD classic.
