The Montane Switch Glove is a unique glove/mitt combo that allows you to stay warm, but maintain the dexterity that a glove offers. Can be worn as a stand alone softshell glove, or pull-out the insulated mitt when extra warmth and protection it needed.

Designed for high energy activities such as ski touring, fastpacking and ultra running where temperature regulation and protection is key. The lightweight, close fitting GRANITE STRETCH softshell fabric provides breathability and dexterity, combined with a suede leather palm, ideal for use with poles. When the temperature drops or the descent begins the PrimaLoft® insulated PERTEX® mitt can be pulled out to provide increased warmth and protection.
Our Verdict
The Montane Switch Gloves are a unique glove/mitt combo. Some people prefer to wear mitts for better warmth, because when your fingers are altogether, they warm themselves up quicker. Others prefer to wear gloves for better mobility, but gloves isolate the fingers, and so they can take longer to heat up. The Switch Gloves give you the best of both worlds.
When worn as just a glove, the Granite Stretch softshell outer fabric allows for unrestricted movement and high levels of durability. The Suede leather palm allows good grip on walking poles and has added perforations for increased breathability.
The mitt cannot be worn by itself but can be pulled out from the cuffs when extra warmth is needed and stuffed back in when not being used. This does leave a little bulge on top of the cuff when it's stuffed which is noticeable but doesn't get in the way. The mitt is filled with Primaloft insulation which is considered to have the best warmth to weight ratio of any synthetic fibre. There's not loads of it but enough to make the difference needed when the temperature starts to drop. The added Pertex outer fabric also helps to keep light rain and wind at bay.
The gloves are incredibly light (only 62g size M) which makes them ideal for fastpacking, trail running and ski touring.
