For decades people have relied on the original RidgeRest mattress to provide the lightest comfort possible or to boost the warmth and durability of a three-dseason mattress for winter use. Now with our patent-pending aluminized Solar coating the RidgeRest SOLite offers a 10% boost in warmth with even more durability from surface wear and tear.
Thermarest says
This lightweight alternative to the RidgeRest ® Solar mattress is coated with a layer of our reflective ThermaCapture ™ technology that redirects radiant heat back to your body to amplify warmth. Working in conjunction with the classic RidgeRest® peaks and valleys, the SOLite mattress delivers exceptional insulation in an ultralight and virtually indestructible alternative for backcountry travelers. For maximum warmth, use reflective side-up.
Our Verdict
Ridgerest has always been the premium choice closed cell foam mat because unlike a smooth mat it has ridges which increase its insulating properties. Now improved with a silvered surface to improve the insulation value further.
As with all closed cell foam mats it can be cut to the desired size to further reduce unecessary weight.

*ASTM R-Value:
From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.
You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.
In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures. This will be also be dependent on your sleeping bag, how cold you sleep etc. Please contact our customer service team if you need advice on choosing the right mat for your activity.
