Our Verdict
Montbell's Light Down Pants provide excellent warmth for the weight. Weighing just 192g for a medium size and packing down to an impressively small size these pants are ideal for cold weather camping. These pants have a surprisingly close fit for insulated over-trousers so that may be something to consider for anyone with bigger legs. This does mean that heat is trapped effectively, keeping you nice and warm.
The quilted style with stitch-through construction works well at keeping down in place so even after storage these pants warm up quickly. To keep the weight down the pants have a a very limited feature set with an elasticated drawstring waist and simple elasticated ankles. This elastication does mean they won't fit over boots so it's not as quick as I'd like to get them on when the temperature drops.

In the course of these efforts, Montbell never purchases down from operations that practice “live-plucking” methods. We only utilize down plumes and feathers collected as a by-product of water fowl raised to meet the demands of the food industry.
