Our Verdict
Sustainable, Insulation Type that can compete with down for its warmth-to-weight ratio.
Named for its ability to mimic down, this vest is filled with a hollow fibre sphere, a Insulation Type that traps air, not just in the hollow fibre, but also in between each little sphere. the advantage to this is that you get the benefits of down, meaning it weighs significantly less, but also the benefits of synthetic; it works when it’s wet which is a big draw for me, especially in the U.K, it retains its shape, it won’t degrade like down and it’s friendly to animals. The outer of the vest is made from 100% recycled polyester, which at first looks and feels very thin, but is very hard wearing and durable.
The vest can compress into its own pocket, and again, because it’s not down, you can compress it as much as you want without compromising the performance. It’s a tight athletic fit, so it won’t blow around in the winds and is kept cinched around your waist with an elastic hem.
Works brilliantly as a mid-layer, but also as an external layer in cool but fine weather. It’s very versatile and you will get a lot of use from this vest. Just as a heads up, I almost exclusively take a medium whenever I am testing Haglofs, (I’m 6.1 and about 90 kilograms) but found with this vest, even just using a thin base layer, I needed one size up, so you may want to take that into consideration
